My paintings are all about the color and texture.
I started painting in watercolor in 2005. It was the cleanness of their colors that attracted me. It turned out to be an easy transition from hand dyeing my own yarns for weaving and fabric for quilting to the move to watercolors. My watercolor paintings are always representational. No matter what I paint in watercolors, it is usually the color that first draws me to the image.
Flash forward to 2013 to see my interpretation of color and texture in my oil and cold wax mixed media paintings. They are not representational, but once again, the intrigue of color and texture has pulled me in this new direction. The majority of colors in my paintings will probably never be repeated because of the methods I use in painting. By adding, subtracting and manipulating the paint, my method creates unique colors each time. It is sort of alchemy. It is still about the color.
Everyone will see something different in these nonrepresentational paintings. I hope viewers enjoy creating their own imaginative ideas about my oil and wax paintings. I want them to look from a distance and be drawn closer. I hope they find little magical spots of color and texture.
